CRUMLIN ROAD COURTHOUSE FIRE DAMAGED

Few people were surprised when a fire was started at the highly vulnerable and vacant Crumlin Road Courthouse. The Society and others had been raising concerns about the inadequate level of security measures at the building for some time. Thankfully damage seems to have been confined to the rear elevation, where the Department has already agreed can be demolished to occur to facilitate a hotel scheme. (The Society did not concur with its assessment).

We have asked the Department to exploit this opportunity to advise owners of empty properties on how best to vandal proof their building.
