INFO FLASH - HOME & DRY SEMINAR NOW OPEN FOR BOOKINGS

The creative re-use of our historic buildings is one of the most sustainable forms of development. It enhances the character of a local area and creates employment. It is important to learn from the experience of others who have rescued buildings from the brink of dereliction to create successful businesses, community facilities and comfortable homes. In more straitened economic times how can we turn derelict buildings into assets?

As part of the Wrecks to Riches seminar, owners, architects and conservation specialists will provide valuable insights into the conservation of a range of historic buildings, large and small. This will include advice on available grant aid and VAT from the government departments responsible. In the afternoon delegates will also have the opportunity to visit a number of buildings that sit alongside the historic walls and which have been restored in recent years.

Our venue is the former First Derry Primary School, previously a building at risk which was sensitively converted in the late 1990s to the Verbal Arts Centre. Its restoration injected confidence into the area and has inspired numerous other projects throughout the city.

The seminar is being organised by the UAHS in partnership with the Northern Ireland Environment Agency as part of the Built Heritage at Risk Northern Ireland project. To sign up for this event download an application form here.
