Linen Warehouse Renewed Threat
The loss of this historic 19th century linen cuff and collar warehouse, by the celebrated firm of Young & Mackenzie, located within the Belfast City Conservation Area, would result in harm to the distinctive character of the area. Although all floors of this building are currently being used, we urge the owner to fully explore all options in ensuring that the building is not demolished and has a continued use.
The handling of this application will have important implications for the management of Conservation Areas across Northern Ireland. If buildings of this calibre can be lost then Conservation Areas could be rendered meaningless.
