DoE Minister rejects damaging planning policy
The lobby by UAHS, Friends of the Earth and others to reject draft PPS24 Economic Considerations has succeeded.
The Society had argued that the policy would skew the planning system towards approving development which might have short-term economic benefit but be at the expense of social and environmental considerations. Such development would in fact hinder rather than help long-term economic regeneration by destroying the built and natural heritage assets which are crucial for our quality of life and attracting investors and tourists.
We are pleased that the DoE Minister Alex Attwood recognised the merits of these arguments and has rejected the Policy. Read the DoE press release here.
