Society joins UK wide ‘Cut the VAT’ campaign
Join us in the UK wide VAT relief campaign led by a consortium of heritage and construction organisations to reverse the decision to remove the zero VAT rate on approved alterations to listed buildings announced in the Budget.
There has been a long running campaign to remove the VAT on repairs to existing buildings, (new build has been exempt for decades). However, instead of addressing this imbalance, the exemption on alterations has been removed as well. This reinforces an already bizarre inequity, further discouraging the charitable and private sector from embarking on projects which benefit the construction industry and regenerate communities.
See the letter to the Chancellor which sets out the perverse scenario.
And please contact your local MP using the Civic Voice link to ask that this disincentive be addressed.
