CALLING ALL BUILDERS FOR GOLA ISLAND SKILLS SCHOOL

We are running a Traditional Building Skills Summer School for builders on the magical island of Gola off the north west coast of Donegal on 11-13 June.

Our 2007 Home and Dry event on Gola for owners of traditional buildings revealed that a major block to restoration was the severe shortage of builders with skills in conservation, given the then prevailing focus on new build.

The importance of the green economy is, at last, coming to the fore. We hope our weekend course will act as a catalyst and encourage the sustainable re-use of vernacular buildings in Donegal and beyond. If you are an interested builder please read on...

Perspectives on Design in Cathedral Quarter

The narrow streets and idiosyncratic buildings of Cathedral Quarter hark back to the birth of Belfast and the subsequent history of its emergence as a centre of commerce and industry. Just as it did in earlier stages of the city's growth, Cathedral Quarter today hosts some of Belfast's most exciting new developments. What current and emerging policies will protect the creativity, history and heritage of the area while at the same time allowing for new developments and contemporary architecture?

We would be pleased if you could join us for the debate.
