Education
The Society provides speakers for local history societies and extramural lectures, and has organized regular conferences and seminars on aspects of local architecture.
One such conference, Bliss or Blitz, focused on the threats to rural vernacular buildings, and led to initiatives by the NI Housing Executive and others which may reduce the loss of such buildings.
KEY STAGE 2
Recognizing the need for education at an early stage, the Society received a Heritage Lottery Fund grant to enable it to employ an education officer for three years. Materials were developed for schools at key stage 2, drawing local buildings into the curricula for history, geography, art and other subjects.
We hope to continue the work through our website, and are always willing to talk with schools - contact us about this aspect of our work.
