May Street Presbyterian Church

Plans were lodged by Barnabus Ventures to build over and encase this B+ listed classical church, demolish the B+ listed church hall beside and remove the historic railings. The scheme for the 'Hope and History Centre', which included office accommodation and 76 apartments, also involved the construction of a 19 storey building alongside looming over Joy Street and other listed buildings.  Members of UAHS commiteee and staff met with the developers and we submitted an letter of objection to Belfast Planning Division.

The proposals clearly contravened listed building and conservation area policy and the scheme has thankfully been withdrawn.
