Home & Dry

If you like old buildings, or live in one, Home & Dry has been setup for you as place to find up-to-date Information, Guidance, Events and Professional Advice on repair and maintenance.

It is advisable to contact the Northern Ireland Environment Agency if you are embarking on the repair or restoration of a listed building.

General advice, technical notes and contact details can be found on their website. The same principles of care and repair apply to most historic buildings so have a look at their site even if your building is not listed.

The Society has become increasingly aware of the need to provide down to earth advice on care and repair and to encourage this approach to buildings.

The new online Directory of Traditional Building Skills (2014) can be accessed on our website here. It also provides an advice and guidance section with a wealth of information on certain building elements and repair work.

Our catalogue series on Built Heritage at Risk contains some best practice restoration examples and we are in the process of producing a new BHARNI Catalogue- Volume 9 which should be available June 2015.  Meanwhile, recent examples of best practice Buildings at Risk case studies is available on our website here.

Hearth is the practical arm of the Society. It has demonstrated the art of the possible time and again through its inspirational projects across Northern Ireland. See how they do it at www.hearth-housing.org.uk
